Xiaomi is no stranger to the electric vehicle market, having already launched its EV lineup in China, including the recently introduced Xiaomi YU7 which has garnered overwhelmingly positive responses from the public. However, for now, these vehicles remain exclusive to the Chinese market.

In a recent statement, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun revealed that the company is considering expanding its EV offerings to international markets by around 2027. According to Lei Jun, Xiaomi is prioritizing its domestic market first, aiming to meet local demand before venturing globally. This cautious approach stems from the immense popularity of the YU7 in China — pre-orders for the vehicle are so high that some customers are expected to wait over a year before receiving their units.

As interest in Xiaomi’s electric vehicles continues to grow, the next two years will be crucial in determining how the tech giant scales up production and navigates international expansion. If everything goes according to plan, we could see Xiaomi-branded EVs hitting roads outside of China starting in 2027.
