The long-awaited follow-up to the acclaimed Sony WH-1000XM5 is finally here. After a three-year wait, the WH-1000XM6 has officially launched in Malaysia and is priced at RM2,099. Let’s take a look at what’s new this time around.

The first major difference you’ll notice is the design. The XM6 now features a foldable construction that allows the earcups to fold inward—an improvement over its predecessor, which could only swivel flat. The headband up top is now wider, the earpads are thicker and the power button is now recessed to better distinguish between it and the ANC/Ambient Mode button.
Under the hood, the XM6 is equipped with an upgraded HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN3, which Sony claims is seven times faster than the QN1 chip used in the XM5. Coupled with six microphones on each earcup (up from four on the XM4), users can expect even better noise-cancelling performance.

Like the XM5, the XM6 supports Sony’s LDAC codec and DSEE Extreme audio upscaling. It also introduces LE Audio support, enabling ultra-low latency for gaming and compatibility with Auracast broadcast audio. Battery life is rated at 30 hours with ANC on, with a quick 3-minute charge delivering up to 3 hours of playback.

Sony also tuned the XM6 in collaboration with engineers from three top-tier recording studios—Sterling Sound, Battery Studios, and Coast Mastering—as well as GRAMMY Award-nominated artist Post Malone. It’ll certainly be interesting to hear just how the audio quality has improved this generation, once we’ve gotten our hands on the XM6 for review, that is.
The Sony WH-1000XM6 is available in Black, Platinum Silver, and Midnight Blue colour variants and is available for pre-order at RM2,099. Pre-orders will receive a premium headphone stand worth RM199 and RM50 Touch ‘n Go credit upon product warranty registration with MySony. Sony says the headphones will be available mid-June.
