A follow-up to last year’s budget-friendly WF-C700N wireless earbuds, Sony’s new WF-C710N brings a handful of welcome upgrades while sticking to the same affordable price point. It’s a solid refinement rather than a complete overhaul—but one that makes a strong case for itself at RM499.

What Is It?
The Sony WF-C710N is a pair of wireless noise-cancelling earbuds retailing for RM499. Inside are 5mm dynamic drivers with Sony’s DSEE processing tech. It supports Bluetooth 5.3 with SBC and AAC codecs, but there’s no aptX or LDAC support.
Packaging is the usual Sony affair with recyclable materials, and inside the box, you’ll find the earbuds in their charging case, three pairs of eartips, a USB-C to USB-A charging cable, and some random—but charming—stickers. The earbuds are available in Black, White, Pink, and a rather striking Glass Blue, which is also the colour of our review unit.

What’s Good?
Love it or hate it, the WF-C710N sticks to Sony’s house sound—warm tuning with a mid-bass emphasis and a smooth, rolled-off treble. It’s a safe tuning that works well across most genres, providing an enjoyable, non-fatiguing listening experience.
Impressively, noise-cancelling is one of the WF-C710N’s strongest features—especially at this price. It does a solid job cutting out low-frequency hums from vehicles and air-conditioning, performing surprisingly close if not similar to the higher-end WF-1000XM5. Testing the buds on a recent flight, the WF-C710N manages to cancel out the rumble of the plane engine well, with just a whisper of the higher-pitched air-conditioner sound lingering.
That being said, higher frequency sounds and voices still leak through a tad, but that also avoids the deafening “underwater” sensation heavier NC sometimes causes.

NC and Ambient Sound modes are adjustable through the Sony Headphones Connect app (now seemingly more refined than ever). You can toggle between Noise Cancelling, Ambient Sound, and Off. While there’s no manual NC level adjustment, there is an Adaptive Sound Control feature that changes modes based on your activity—walking, sitting, running, or commuting.

Holding the left earbud’s touch panel (default setting) triggers Quick Attention Mode, which pauses music and lets in ambient sound. It takes a few seconds for NC to switch off, but the music pause is instant and reliable.
Battery life is equally commendable. Sony claims 8.5 hours of use with NC on (12 hours with it off), plus another 21.5 hours from the charging case—totalling 30 hours with NC enabled. Charging does take a bit of time with 3.5 hours required for a full 0 to 100% charge. But with my usage habit of leaving the earbuds in the case when not in use and charging them whenever I can, I have no complaints with battery life and charging time whatsoever.

Not So Good
Touch controls are functional but limited. You can only assign either Ambient Sound or Playback controls to each earbud, not both. That means you can’t have pause/play and NC toggle on the same side.
Volume adjustment, in particular, is awkward. It’s done by tapping repeatedly (left to lower, right to raise), which often leads to accidental skips or repeats if you double/triple tap by mistake. Other earbuds use a swipe gesture, and that would’ve been a much better option here.

The last gripe is a minor one but is still worth mentioning—the fit. Upon putting the WF-C710N into my ears with the L-sized tips, they immediately fit snug with a near-perfect seal. This is great for me as someone who fits larger-sized earbuds and tips, but this might spell bad news for you. The shells of the WF-C710N are bigger than you might expect—certainly a tad larger than the WF-C700N that came before—likely to accommodate more microphones and touch sensors.
Is It Worth It?

For RM499, the Sony WF-C710N punches well above its weight—it’s also on sale now for only RM399 which further sweetens the deal. It delivers solid sound quality, surprisingly capable NC, and reliable battery life. The touch controls and bulky fit may take some getting used to, but if you can live with those quirks, this is a solid pick for the price.
