Samsung Electronics co-CEO Han Jong-hee has passed away this morning at the age of 63 due to a cardiac arrest. He played a crucial role in leading Samsung’s mobile and consumer electronics business, shaping the company’s direction in these key sectors.

Han had been with Samsung since 1988, primarily involved in the TV business, and under his leadership, Samsung maintained its position as the world’s No.1 TV brand for 18 consecutive years. His sudden passing comes as a shock, especially since he was only appointed as co-CEO in November last year.

His death also comes at a challenging time for Samsung, as the company faces declining smartphone sales and increasing competition in the electronics market.
