Apple Considered Removing USB-C on iPhone 17 Air
March 18, 2025 AF

Apple is reportedly working on a super-thin iPhone 17 Air, set to replace the iPhone Plus lineup. According to Bloomberg, the device could measure just 5.5mm thick, making it one of the thinnest iPhones ever.

Initially, Apple considered removing the USB-C port entirely in favor of wireless-only charging, making it Apple’s first completely portless iPhone—but the plan has since been scrapped.

To maintain its ultra-thin form factor, the iPhone 17 Air is rumored to come with just one rear camera and a single speaker.

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 series in September, with more details likely to emerge in the coming months. Interestingly, this isn’t the first attempt at a portless smartphoneVivo experimented with the concept through its Vivo Apex (2019) prototype.
