Proton has officially announced the development of Malaysia’s first EV assembly plant in Tanjung Malim, aiming to accelerate the country’s electric vehicle industry. This comes as the Proton e.MAS 7 has already been spotted on local roads in recent weeks.

The new plant will have an initial production capacity of 20,000 EVs per year once Phase 1 is completed by the end of 2025. In Phase 2, the capacity will expand to 45,000 units annually, with vehicles set to be sold both locally and internationally.
This facility marks a key milestone in the development of the Automotive High-Tech Valley (AHTV) in Tanjung Malim, further strengthening Malaysia’s National Automotive Policy. It is also expected to assemble Proton’s upcoming EVs, possibly the e.MAS 3 and e.MAS 5.
Beyond production, Proton anticipates creating over 200 new jobs in the EV industry, while also supporting local automotive vendors supplying EV components.
