U Mobile, in partnership with Huawei, has successfully tested seamless 5G coverage across the 13.5km Penang Bridge, achieving minimum speeds of 120Mbps using Meta Active Antenna Unit (MetaAAU) technology.

Unlike traditional setups requiring a mid-bridge base station, U Mobile’s 5G-Advanced solution eliminates this need by leveraging beamforming algorithms to enhance coverage and stability. During testing, speeds averaged 597Mbps with zero dropped calls, even at 80km/h.
The system also features an energy-saving “0 Bit 0 Watt” mode, shutting down up to 99% during low-traffic periods. Once deployed, commuters can expect 4K streaming, smooth gaming, and HD live broadcasts, while future applications may include AI-powered road safety and emergency drones.
This trial reinforces U Mobile’s commitment to delivering reliable, high-speed 5G connectivity, even in challenging environments.
