In a response to a recent viral message, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) issued a clarification on driving license renewal for senior citizens. Unlike what the viral message claims, JPJ says that there are no added requirements for senior citizen drivers to renew their licenses.
According to the viral message, senior citizen drivers above the age of 60 would need to go though a competency test and health assessment to renew their licenses from 1 January 2025 onwards. Obviously, this has now been debunked by JPJ itself, and the department further reminds members of the public to not spread false information.
“For the record, the Transport Ministry and JPJ have not imposed any additional requirements for senior citizens to renew their driving licence. The renewal process for LMM remains, subject to the existing conditions and standard operating procedure (SOP) under the Road Transport Act 1987,” said the Director General of JPJ, Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli.
So there you have it. If you’re over the age of 60 and you need to renew your driving license soon, rest assured there are no extra requirements to do so.
