ChatGPT integration is one of the most talked-about features of Apple Intelligence, and this is now finally available on selected iPhone models – namely the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 series – through the iOS 18.2 update. Of course, it’s also offered on iPad and Mac with the release of iPadOS 18.2 and macOS Sequoia 15.2.
So how is ChatGPT integrated into Apple Intelligence? Well, it’s used in both Siri and Writing Tools. With Siri, it can tap into a user access ChatGPT for certain requests, and the digital assistant can provide the response directly. Of course, you don’t need an account to use ChatGPT, though users have the freedom to link their ChatGPT account if they want to.
As for Writing Tools, the ChatGPT integration allows the Compose feature to generate text from what the user is already writing about. ChatGPT’s image-generation capabilities can also be used to add images alongside written content, which may prove to be useful for certain users.
Beyond ChatGPT integration, other new Apple Intelligence features added with iOS 18.2 include visual intelligence – you can quickly look up any subject with the camera – the ability to share AirTag locations with a link, and Image Playground; the latter lets users generate images from a prompt.
If you want to take advantage of these new Apple Intelligence features, make sure you’re updated to iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, or macOS Sequoia 15.2. In the coming months, Siri will be more capable too with onscreen awareness and the ability to draw on a user’s personal context.
