SAIC Motor Malaysia just introduced a new ICE model on our shores, the MG HS. As it is a C-segment SUV, it competes directly with the Proton X70; the MG HS is even priced quite closely to the range-topping model of the local SUV.
Two variants of the MG HS are offered in Malaysia. The base Standard model is priced at RM129,900, while the higher-end Lux variant goes for RM145,900. These prices are without registration fees and insurance, and to celebrate MG’s 100th anniversary, a RM5,000 introductory offer (while stocks last) is available for both the Standard and Lux models.

Measuring 4,574mm long, 1,876mm wide, and 1,664mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,720mm, the MG HS is longer, wider, and lower than the Proton X70 with a longer wheelbase too. Powering the SUV, on the other hand, is a 1.5L turbo engine that outputs 162PS and 250Nm of torque. Paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission – MG says that the gearbox is designed to last up to 320,000km – drive is sent to the front wheels.
Aside from that, the MG HS also has MG Pilot, the carmaker’s suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Unfortunately, this safety feature is only reserved for the higher-end Lux model. Nonetheless, it includes front collision warning, adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assistance, lane departure warning and prevention, lane keeping assist, blind spot detection, lane change assist, rear cross traffic alert, as well as door opening warning.

The MG HS is now available for booking in Malaysia with a RM5,000 introductory offer, lowering the prices of the Standard and Lux models to RM124,900 and RM140,900 respectively. If you’re keen to test drive the C-segment SUV, you can do so at your nearest MG Motor authorised dealer this weekend on 23 and 24 November.
