It looks like Qualcomm is changing the naming scheme of its flagship chip yet again. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite is the successor to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and it marks the chipmaker’s return to a custom CPU – it is touted by the company to be the “world’s fastest mobile CPU.”
If you’re wondering, yes, the Elite moniker is taken from Qualcomm’s laptop chips. Featuring a second generation Qualcomm Oryon CPU, the Snapdragon 8 Elite promises up to 45% faster single-core and multi-core performances. The max clock speed of the chip has also been increased to 4.32GHz.

In the GPU side of things, the Snapdragon 8 Elite is said to offer 40% better gaming performance with a 35% improvement in ray tracing performance. This is thanks to a new Adreno GPU with a “sliced architecture” that have dedicated memory allocated to each slice. Oh, the overall power efficiency of the chip has also been improved by up to 44% and 40% for the CPU and GPU respectively.
According to Qualcomm, the first smartphones sporting the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite will be released in the coming weeks from brands like Samsung, Oppo, Xiaomi, Honor, and Realme. In fact, the Realme GT 7 Pro will be launched in Malaysia as early as next month, and it’s said to be the first Snapdragon 8 Elite phone in our local market.
