The Tesla Robovan Is an Autonomous Van That Sits 20 People
October 11, 2024 Andrew Cheng

Aside from the driverless Cybercab, Tesla also showed off a surprise new vehicle at its “We, Robot” event: an autonomous van aptly dubbed Tesla Robovan. Not only can the electric van sit up to 20 people, it can also be used to transport goods.

Details on the Robovan remain light, though the efficiency of the EV is one of its most touted features. According to Elon Musk, the Robovan can bring down the cost of travel to 5 or 10 cents a mile. This is quite a bit more efficient than the Cybercab with a quoted figure of 20 cents per mile, as claimed by Tesla.

Just like the Cybercab, the Robovan features a very futuristic design. It looks like a…well, train, and its wheels are not visible either. As the van can be used to ferry passengers or goods, the configuration of the interior should be customisable for different needs.

Unlike the Cybercab, there is no tentative release window for the Robovan. With that in mind, it is probably more of a proof of concept than an actual vehicle that will enter production. At least, that’s the impression we got from the launch event in the video embedded below.
