Tesla Unveils Cybercab – Self-Driving Robotaxi Is Finally Here For Under $30k
October 11, 2024 Andrew Cheng

Elon Musk has talked about the robotaxi for the longest time, and it’s finally here in the form of the Tesla Cybercab. Built from the ground up as a self-driving electric car – it doesn’t even have a steering wheel or pedals – it is said to be 10 to 20 times safer than human-driven vehicles, as Musk puts it.

Design wise, the Cybercab is decidedly futuristic. On the inside, the cabin of the robotaxi offers enough space for just two passengers, with doors that open upward. Oh, there’s no charging port either; Musk said the EV will charge wirelessly. That’s certainly a lofty promise.

Perhaps the most intriguing part of the Cybercab is its cost. The self-driving car is said to be priced below the $30,000 price point, which comes up to about RM129,000. Of course, before the robotaxi can even go on sale, it has to be approved by regulators first. After all, it’s not a traditional car in every sense of the word.

But the Tesla Cybercab won’t be hitting the road anytime soon. Production of the robotaxi is said to only begin sometime in 2026, and Musk said there’s a chance it could be pushed back to 2027. Nonetheless, if the Cybercab does materialise, there’s no denying that it would be quite the achievement for the company.
