Astro’s Disney+ Hotstar Subscription Switched to Basic Plan
October 1, 2024 Andrew Cheng

If you’re signed up to Disney+ Hotstar through Astro, take note: the previous Premium plan is now converted to Basic. This change was first spotted by Aksiz, and it affects the video quality, number of concurrent streaming, and device limit of the streaming service.

Not only does the Basic plan of Disney+ Hotstar limits the streaming quality to 1080p, only one concurrent streaming is allowed; there is also a three-device limit for logins instead of the previous 10. Unfortunately, 4K video quality and concurrent streaming on three screens are only offered in the Premium plan, and from what we were told, there’s no way to upgrade to this tier through Astro.

This is a curious change, given that Astro was actually offering the Premium plan of Disney+ Hotstar after the price increase back in April. Before the price hike, the subscription service was only offered with a quarterly membership for RM54.90, and this was subsequently split to either a Basic or Premium plan with monthly, quarterly (only for Premium), or annual term.

As for pricing, it start at RM24.90/month for the Basic monthly membership, going up to RM79.90/quarter for the sole Premium plan. Naturally, the annual membership offers the best value, which are priced at RM214.90 and RM289.90 for the Basic and Premium plans respectively.
