While the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro has been sold in Malaysia since last week, today is the official launch of the action camera on our shores. Given its Pro moniker, the Action 5 Pro is packed with some impressive features, including a new image sensor and much longer battery life.
First, prices. Here in Malaysia, the Osmo Action 5 Pro is offered in two packages: Standard and Adventure. The RM1,799 Standard bundle includes the camera itself, a battery, a protective frame, a quick-release adapter mount, and a glass lens cover. As for the RM2,289 Adventure package, it adds on a battery case, two extra batteries – for a total of three units – and even a 1.5m extension rod.
As mentioned, the Osmo Action 5 Pro features a new 1/1.3-inch sensor that can capture 40MP stills with 13.5-stops of dynamic range – this is said to be an industry-first – for capturing high-dynamic, low-light videos at 4K/60fps. It also has built-in subject centering and tracking, which is enabled with a 4nm chip and machine learning algorithms.
Battery life of the Osmo Action 5 Pro has been improved quite a bit too. According to DJI, the action camera offers up to four hours of use on a single charge. This is a huge 50% improvement over the predecessor, the company says.
Also showcased at today’s launch event is the DJI Neo, the company’s lightest and most compact drone yet for RM869. The drone can be fully controlled without a remote, as it can be launched (and landed) using the user’s palm. It also offers 4K video recording with 18 minutes of flight time.
The DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro – as well as the DJI Neo – is now available for purchase in Malaysia from RM1,799 for the Standard package. If you want the Adventure package instead which includes more batteries and accessories, it will set you back RM2,289.
