AI is touted on many, many smartphones released in recent times. However, most of the time, it’s merely marketing with AI implementations that are only skin-deep. That is why it’s particularly exciting when we come across AI features that are genuinely useful, such as Honor Magic V3‘s Face-to-Face Translation, which even supports our national language, Bahasa Malaysia.
As its name suggests, Face-to-Face Translation allows users to have a conversation with another person in a different language through real-time translation. The translated text can even be set to appear on the cover screen for a more seamless conversation, and voice translation accompanies the text too.
What makes the Magic V3’s Face-to-Face Translation AI feature particularly interesting is the aforementioned support for Bahasa Malaysia. This is something that the competition does not offer yet, though it’s worth noting that Honor’s translation feature relies on Google Cloud AI, so it needs internet connectivity to function.
Aside from Bahasa Malaysia, Face-to-Face Translation on the Magic V3 also supports quite a number of other languages. These include English (obviously), Chinese, Arabic, French, German, Spanish, Italian. Russian, and Turkish.
Of course, the Magic V3 also has a slew of other AI-powered features. These include AI Eraser to remove unwanted subjects in a picture; Voice-to-Text transcription capability; and AI app sorting, which can intelligently categorise and organise apps based on the usage pattern and preferences of individual users.
Beyond its AI capabilities, the Magic V3 is also an intriguing foldable smartphone. Take the thin profile of the phone, which is one of its main highlights. Measuring only 9.2mm thin when folded – and getting down to a scant 4.35mm when it’s opened up – this is easily one of the thinnest (if not the thinnest) foldable phones in the market now.
Despite its thin profile, the Magic V3 can still deliver great battery life out of its 5,150mAh battery. On average, we can get between five to six hours of screen on time on a single charge, depending on how much we use the larger primary display. Although this is by no means amazing battery life, it’s good enough for a foldable phone this size.
