MKBHD is no stranger in the consumer tech scene for his various reviews on YouTube, and he just released his very own app dubbed Panels. Essentially, it is a wallpaper app, and it even has a monthly subscription dubbed Panels+…that costs more than an equivalent Netflix subscription that tops out at RM55/month.
Curiously, the subscription costs are also different between iOS and Android. The monthly subscription on iPhone costs RM59.90 – yes, the price is localised for Malaysia – while the same plan on Android goes for RM60.99. Although this is a minor difference, the variance is higher for the annual subscription: RM229.90 on iOS, and a whopping RM254.99 on Android. That’s over RM25 worth of difference.
Granted, you don’t need to be subscribed to Panels to download the wallpapers featured in the app. Instead, you only have to watch…two ads, and even that will only unlock the SD resolution. If you want the full resolution wallpaper, you have to be subscribed to Panels+.
Subscription model aside, the Panels app itself is said to feature wallpapers created by artists, and more content in the form of wallpapers and artists will supposedly be updated regularly too. More details on the Panels app can be found on the official website.
