It looks like YouTube Premium is getting yet another price hike in Malaysia despite the strengthening Malaysian Ringgit. The price increase affect all tiers of the service, including individual, student, and family plans – the latter receiving the highest price hike.
Previously priced at RM33.90/month, the YouTube Premium family plan is now set at RM41.90/month; that’s a rather steep RM8 increase. As for the individual plan, it is now going for RM20.90/month, a RM3 increase from the previous RM17.90/month price.
Thankfully, the student plan receives the smallest price hike from RM10.90/month to RM12.90/month.
While these updated YouTube Premium prices are effective immediately, you may not be charged the new rates right away. In our case, our next billing date is 29 September, but we will be charged the old RM33.90/month price on that date. The new RM41.90/month rate will only take effect on 29 October for us, curiously enough.
Nonetheless, despite the price increase, YouTube Premium does bring a number of benefits for a more pleasant user experience on YouTube itself and YouTube Music. Users can enjoy ad-free videos on YouTube – as well as YouTube Music – the ability to download videos to watch offline, and background playback.
