Now this is interesting. Ahead of the iPhone 16 series‘ launch in Malaysia this Friday on 20 September, the Google Pixel 9 phones are being discounted quite a bit locally by a number of retailers. In fact, Google’s flagship phone is up to RM1,100 more affordable now.
First reported by Amanz, Urban Republic – one of six official retailers listed by Google – offers the highest amount of discount. The 256GB Pixel 9 Pro XL, for one, originally goes for RM6,199, but Urban Republic is currently listing the phone for only RM5,099 – that is a generous RM1,100 price cut.
The standard Pixel 9 gets a reasonably good amount of discount too. The suggested retail prices of the phone are RM3,999 and RM4,499 for the 128GB and 256GB models respectively, and Urban Republic is currently selling these two models for RM3,299 and RM3,799 respectively. Basically, both variants receive a RM700 discount from the retailer.
To recap, all Pixel 9 smartphones are powered by Google’s own Tensor G4 chip. Said to be the company’s most efficient chip yet, it is also the first chip to run Gemini Nano with Multimodality. The AI model help the phones understand text, images, and audio, which enables a slew of AI-centric features which are focused quite a bit on photo manipulation using generative AI.
In the camera department, the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL feature a triple camera system made up of a 50MP primary shooter, a 48MP ultra-wide lens, and a 48MP telephoto shooter. The Pixel 9 has a similar setup, though it doesn’t include the 48MP telephoto camera. The Pro Pixel 9 phones come with a 42MP selfie camera too, while the standard Pixel 9 make do with a 10.5MP selfie shooter.
Aside from that, both the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro feature a 6.3-inch OLED display clocked at 120Hz, though the Pro has a sharper 2856 x 1280 panel over the Pixel 9’s 2424 x 1080 screen. They are also packed with 4,700mAh batteries, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL has a larger 5,060mAh cell and a 6.8-inch 2992 x 1344 OLED panel with 120Hz refresh rate.
While it may simply be a coincidence that the Pixel 9 phones are now more affordable in Malaysia ahead of the iPhone 16 series’ launch on our shores this Friday, it’s possible that the strengthening Malaysian Ringgit plays a role in the price cut too. Nonetheless, if you’re keen to get the Pixel 9 phones at lower prices, you can do so through Urban Republic.
