Huawei just unveiled the world’s first triple folding device, the Huawei Mate XT. The tri-fold nature of the foldable device is certainly the headline feature, and in China itself, the premium device has garnered over four million pre-orders.
Protected by an ultra thin glass, the Mate XT’s triple folding OLED display opens up to reveal a whopping 10.2-inch panel; that’s quite a bit bigger than dual folding phones in the market now. It also has a total resolution of 3184 x 2232 with LTPO adaptive refresh rate, and users can use either one (6.4-inch), two (7.9-inch), or all three panels (10.2-inch) of the phone at any given time.
Other specifications of the Mate XT include a triple camera system (50MP main with adaptive aperture + 12MP ultra-wide + 12MP periscope telephoto), an 8MP selfie camera, and batteries with a combined capacity of 5,600mAh with 66W charging. Unfortunately, the chipset powering the phone is not detailed by Huawei.
The Huawei Mate XT is currently available for pre-order in China only from 19,999 Chinese yuan for the 16GB + 256GB model; that comes up to about RM12,210. It remains to be seen if the tri-fold device will ever be sold outside of Huawei’s home country.
