Gentari has introduced overstay fees at its AC chargers in Suria KLCC and KL Convention Centre. The charging time is now limited to five hours, and keeping your EV plugged in after the time limit will incur additional charges of up to RM0.15/minute.
We first spotted the overstay fees through a post by one Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi in the MyEVOC Facebook group; the specific rates were subsequently shared by SoyaCincau. The overstay fees are different depending on the charger’s capacity: 7kW chargers will incur a RM0.10/minute fee after five hours of charging, while additional fees for 11kW and 22kW chargers are higher at the aforementioned RM0.15/minute rate.
The overstay fees are effective today on 3 September, and from what we gathered, the new fees are only applicable to Gentari AC chargers at these two locations (Suria KLCC and KL Convention Centre). It remains to be seen if the company will introduce the mechanism to its EV chargers at other sites as well.
As EV ownership in Malaysia grows, charger hogging also gets more prevalent. Gentari’s overstay fees will alleviate this pain point to a certain extent, and it is not the first company to introduce such mechanism either. After all, Tesla charges idle fees for EVs that are fully charged after five minutes, though this only applies to its faster Superchargers.
