BYD Seal Dynamic Launching in Malaysia 6 September – Cheaper Model With 460km Range
September 2, 2024 Andrew Cheng

Back when the BYD Seal EV made its Malaysian debut in February this year, the most affordable Dynamic Standard Range base model was dropped from the lineup due to low demand. Well, it looks like this is no longer the case, as BYD Malaysia is teasing the arrival of the cheaper variant on 6 September this week.

What differentiates the Dynamic model of the Seal to the two higher-end variants (Premium and Performance AWD) are performance, range, and charging speeds. The Dynamic features a single electric motor on the rear wheels that does 204PS and 310Nm of torque, which is still reasonably powerful for a 0-100kmph time of 7.5 seconds.

Aside from that, it also has a 61.44kWh battery that offers up to 460km of WLTP range with support for 110kW DC charging.

In comparison, the higher-end Premium Seal has a similar single rear motor setup as the Dynamic, though it has higher outputs of 313PS and 360Nm of torque (0-100kmph in 5.9 seconds). Paired with a higher capacity 82.56kWh battery, it can travel up to 570km (WLTP) on a single charge as well. It can do faster 150kW DC charging too, allowing the large battery to be charged from 10-80% in 37 minutes.

Last but not least is the Seal in the highest-end Performance AWD trim. This model has a dual-motor setup with a combined output of 530PS and 670Nm of torque, allowing it to go from 0-100kmph in only 3.8 seconds. It also has the same 82.5kWh battery (and 150kW DC charging rate) as the Premium, but given the extra performance, the range is reduced to 520km (WLTP).

The BYD Seal in the base Dynamic guise will be launched in Malaysia later this week on 6 September; those who are keen to test drive the most affordable Seal can do so on 7 and 8 September at Stadium Bukit Jalil Car Park B. Considering how well-received the EV has been on our shores, it will be interesting to see how much cheaper the Dynamic model will be.
