Rumour: Proton Saga MC3 Coming End-2025 – EV, Petrol Options, Sedan & Hatchback Models
August 22, 2024 Andrew Cheng

As Proton’s best-selling car, the Proton Saga is an important model for the national carmaker. So it’s no surprise that a new rumour is suggesting that the Proton Saga MC3 (Minor Change 3) facelift is expected to be released towards the end of 2025. Here’s the kicker: it will supposedly be offered with an EV and petrol powertrain too.

These details come from Funtasticko citing an anonymous source who added that the upcoming Saga MC3 is one of the models that are currently in development at Proton’s R&D centre in Hangzhou Bay, China. The facelift model is said to be based on an upgraded version of the existing platform as well.

With that in mind, it’s interesting that the facelifted Saga is rumoured to be offered with an EV powertrain and a separate petrol model. After all, the current platform of the Saga – which dates back to the 2008 Saga BLM – was not developed with an EV powertrain in mind. Nonetheless, perhaps Proton have some big upgrades planned for the ageing platform.

Aside from that, the upcoming Saga facelift is said to be available in both sedan and hatchback forms too, though the latter will supposedly only be offered a year after the sedan model’s debut. The exterior and interior of the car are rumoured to be completely revamped too, and naturally, the new Saga will incorporate Proton’s current design language too, including the Infinite Weave and Ethereal Bow design motifs.

Of course, given that these details on the Proton Saga MC3 facelift did not come from the national carmaker itself, there’s always a chance they are inaccurate, although Funtasticko’s source has a good track record. On that note, we’re quite pessimistic on the Saga facelift’s supposed release by end-2025, given that Proton will only be moving the Saga’s production to its Tanjong Malim plant in Perak by 2026.

Nonetheless, we’ll be sure to keep a close eye for any news regarding the Saga MC3 – perhaps we’ll see some test units of the refreshed A-segment model on local roads soon.
