Today’s a big day for Android fans in Malaysia, given that Google’s very own Android phones are now available on our shores. However, with the launch of the Pixel 9 phones locally, it’s worth noting that there are certain features that are not available in Malaysia, including Car Crash Detection.
This is outlined by Google itself in the product page of the Pixel 9 phones. Beyond Car Crash Detection, Emergency Location Service for the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL are not available either, which “helps first responders act faster by sending them more accurate location data,” as Google puts it.
Despite that, the Pixel 9 phones still largely offer the “Pixel experience” in Malaysia, including a slew of AI-centric features enabled by the new Google Tensor G4 chip. Said to be the company’s most efficient chip yet, it is also the first chip to run Gemini Nano with Multimodality. The AI model helps the phones understand text, images, and audio, which enables a slew of AI-centric features which are focused quite a bit on photo manipulation using generative AI.
To recap, the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL are now available for pre-order in Malaysia; the early bird prices are RM3,999 and RM5,699 respectively. The Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL will hit local store shelves come 22 August, while the RM5,199 Pixel 9 Pro will arrive slightly later in September next month.
