At the local launch of the Pixel 9 series, it’s confirmed that the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold will not be coming to Malaysia. This comes down to the band incompatibility of the foldable phone for Malaysian networks, but surprisingly enough, we were told that next year’s model will actually be offered here.
According to a Google representative, Malaysia was not one of the target markets during the development of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, which is why its network capabilities are incompatible with Malaysian telcos. While it’s unfortunate that the foldable phone is not available for pre-order locally like the rest of the Pixel 9 smartphones, at least we know the successor will eventually be offered here.
Nonetheless, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is an intriguing foldable smartphone. When unfolded, it measures only 5.1mm thin. Compared to its predecessor, it also has a larger 6.3-inch 2424 x 1080 OLED cover display with 120Hz refresh rate. Open up the phone, and you’ll be greeted by a sizeable 8-inch 2152 x 2076 OLED screen; clocked at 120Hz too, of course.
Other specifications of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold include a slew of AI features enabled by the Google Tensor G4 chip, a triple camera system (48MP primary + 10.5MP ultra-wide + 10.8MP telephoto), a 10MP selfie camera, a 10MP inner camera, as well as a 4,650mAh battery.
To recap, the successor to the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold will be available in Malaysia sometime next year in 2025 when it is released. Although the current Pixel 9 Pro Fold itself won’t be offered here, it’s good that Google has its eyes set for the Malaysian market with its next foldable Pixel phone.
