After much anticipation, the Google Pixel 9 smartphones are finally official. Made up of the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, as well as the Pixel 9 Pro XL – there’s also the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, which we’ll get to in a separate article – all three devices feature Google’s new Tensor G4 chip and a slew of AI-centric features. Oh, they are coming to Malaysia too.
That’s right, the three Pixel 9 phones have been listed on the Malaysian page of the Google Store, though the site isn’t exactly an online store. Rather, it details six “authorised retailers” for our market, which include CelcomDigi, Maxis, Urban Republic, Senheng/senQ, Shopee, as well as Lazada.
Beyond the Pixel 9 smartphones, the Pixel Watch 3 and Pixel Buds 2 Pro are also listed on the website, so chances are, these products will be offered for the Malaysian market as well.
Coming back to the phones themselves, all Pixel 9 smartphones are powered by Google’s own Tensor G4 chip. Said to be the company’s most efficient chip yet, it is also the first chip to run Gemini Nano with Multimodality. The AI model is said to help the phones understand text, images, and audio, which enables a slew of AI-centric features which are focused quite a bit on photo manipulation using generative AI.
In the camera department, the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL feature a triple camera system made up of a 50MP primary shooter, a 48MP ultra-wide lens, and a 48MP telephoto shooter. The Pixel 9 has a similar setup, though it doesn’t include the 48MP telephoto camera. The Pro Pixel 9 phones come with a 42MP selfie camera too, while the standard Pixel 9 make do with a 10.5MP selfie shooter.
Aside from that, both the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro feature a 6.3-inch OLED display clocked at 120Hz, though the Pro has a sharper 2856 x 1280 panel over the Pixel 9’s 2424 x 1080 screen. They are also packed with 4,700mAh batteries, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL has a larger 5,060mAh cell and a 6.8-inch 2992 x 1344 OLED panel with 120Hz refresh rate.
While the Google Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL have been listed on the local Google Store webpage already, the Malaysian pricing of these smartphones have not been revealed yet. That being said, we reckon the six aforementioned authorised retailers will share more details on pricing and availability later this morning, so stay tuned for that.
