Robot vacuum cleaners come in all shapes and sizes, and the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum Cleaner X10+ is quite a sophisticated model. It comes with many features that are typically found in high-end, premium robot vacuums at a lower price point, so its value proposition is excellent.
While I do have some things to nitpick against the X10+, it is still an excellent robot vacuum that (almost) completely remove one household chore from my weekly routine. If you’re in the market for a capable robot vacuum cleaner with great value for money, the X10+ should definitely be in your shortlist.
What It Is
The Xiaomi X10+ has a long list of features that are enticing for a robot vacuum that retails at RM2,199. Yes, that is still quite a bit of money, but the features that you’re getting at this price point are comparable to alternatives that are much more expensive.
So what are these features? Well, for one, the X10+ comes with a smart cleaning station that provides hands-free operation. It can wash the mop pad before and after use – it even dries the pad with hot air to prevent odour – auto dust collection, and even water refilling.
As for the robot vacuum itself, the X10+ can both vacuum and mop, and it comes with what Xiaomi calls “S-Cross AI advanced 3D recognition and avoidance sensor,” allowing it to navigate around obstacles effectively. It also has laser navigation for whole-room scanning, the ability to raise the mop pad to avoid secondary contamination, as well as 4000Pa of suction power.
The Good Stuff
Of course, cleaning performance is one of the most important aspects of a robot vacuum. In this regard, the Xiaomi X10+ does an excellent job. Not only can the vacuum pick up dirt and dust effectively, the mopping leaves the floor feeling nice and clean too. After all, the two mop pads can do 180rpm high-speed rotation for effective cleaning.
For added context, I tested the cleaning performance of the X10+ in my bedroom, which has laminated timber flooring. While I didn’t try out the robot vacuum on tiled surfaces, I reckon it will perform just as well.
And then there’s the obstacle avoidance of the X10+, which is good…for the most part. While it can navigate around furniture quite well – it can even get underneath my table masterfully in a tight corner – it does have some difficulty going over power cable. It even got stuck on a floor cloth a couple of times, though it did manage to recover without any intervention from myself.
I’m also very impressed by the sound level of the X10+. In the Standard cleaning mode, it’s pretty darn quiet; even my cats continue to be sound asleep when the vacuum is doing its thing. Of course, the Strong and Turbo vacuum modes do increase the sound level accordingly, but it’s not unbearable by any means. Oh, I also appreciate the fact that the humidity of the mop pad can be adjusted.
Speaking of the mop pad, I love the fact that I don’t have to wash it after every cleaning, thanks to the smart cleaning station. Although Xiaomi says it takes about two hours for the pads to dry completely with the station’s hot air drying capability, I didn’t notice any odour at all throughout the review period, which is great.
Refilling the water level of the X10+’s smart cleaning station is also a fuss-free affair. There are two tanks in the station: the clear tank is for clean water, while the darker tank collects dirty water. I only need to make sure that the dirty water tank is emptied after every use, and to check that there is enough clean water for the robot vacuum to use before starting a cleaning session; very low-maintenance, in my opinion.
Last but not least is the consumables management page within the Mi Home app itself that controls the X10+. As its name suggests, it shows the remaining usage of the robot vacuum’s different parts down to the hour. Granted, the app doesn’t show how full the disposable bag is, but it’s not difficult to check it myself visually, so it’s not a big deal.
The Bad Stuff
While I thoroughly enjoy the seamless cleaning process of the Xiaomi X10+, there are some parts of the robot vacuum’s user experience that could be improved upon. Editing the map in the Mi Home app, for one, is not intuitive at all. While the X10+ does a good job of mapping a room, it’s tricky to set off-limits area within the map.
There’s also the fact that the X10+ doesn’t come with extra consumables, which is a tad inconvenient when I do need to replace the parts. Understandably, this is likely done to lower the cost of the robot vacuum. With that in mind, if you do plan to get the X10+, make sure to purchase it alongside some replacement parts, especially the mop pad.
Is It Worth It?
For RM2,199, not many robot vacuums in the market now offer the same feature set as the Xiaomi X10+ at this price point. Good value for money has always been Xiaomi’s pricing strategy for most of its products, and it’s really a great reason to purchase this particular vacuum.
Sure, editing the map within the Mi Home app can get quite frustrating, and the lack of extra consumables out of the box with the X10+ is a bit annoying. But looking at the overall value proposition of the robot vacuum, I don’t mind these negatives at all.
