July 16, 2024 Andrew Cheng

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil just announced a new prepaid plan catered to students. Dubbed Rahmah Student Prepaid Package, the plan has to be priced not exceeding RM30 with a minimum of 30GB data and 180 days validity.

Five telcos have been named by Fahmi to offer the new Rahmah Student Prepaid Package, which are CelcomDigi, U Mobile, Maxis, TM, and YTL Communications (Yes). The prepaid plan will be available from 16 August onwards, and more details will be revealed by the respective telco companies in the near future.

According to Fahmi, the new student prepaid plan is made specifically for secondary school leavers who plan to continue their studies at selected Public Institutions of Higher Education (IPTA) and Public Skills Training Institutions (ILKA). The complete list of selected IPTA and ILKA will be available on the Ministry of Communications’ website.

It’s worth noting that the government isn’t making any payment to telco companies to offer the Rahmah Student Prepaid Package, said Fahmi. He elaborated that the telcos are kind enough to reduce the charge for the initiative.
