Cherry is one of the most recognisable names in the keyboard switch business, and the company revealed its first ever silent tactile switch back at Computex 2024. We managed to try out the new Cherry MX Silent Clear at the trade show, and we’re quite impressed with it!
As its name suggests, the MX Silent Clear is really quite a silent switch. The tactile bump is also sharper than it is rounded, and there’s very little pre-travel as well, which is a good thing in our books. Of course, the new switch is also based on Cherry’s new MX2A mold, so it gets improved smoothness, less wobble, and a barrel spring that provides more consistent spring force across different switches.
There’s no word yet on the exact release date of the Cherry MX Silent Clear, though the company mentioned that Ducky will be one of the first manufacturers to use the new switch. It’s also worth noting that the Silent Clear is said to be “developed specifically for the high-end, high-priced mechanical productivity keyboard market.”
