Aside from introducing its latest foldable smartphones, Samsung also unveiled the Galaxy Ring at the ongoing Galaxy Unpacked event in Paris. Designed for 24/7 health monitoring, as the Korean company puts it, the smart ring is quite intriguing, though it won’t be coming to Malaysia.
At least, that’s what we were told by a representative from Samsung Malaysia. The Galaxy Ring will be offered in selected markets first, and it remains to be seen if the smart ring will be offered in more countries, including Malaysia.
Nonetheless, the Galaxy Ring does look very interesting. Not only does it offer up to seven days of battery life, it also has a slew of sensors – accelerometer, PPG for heart rate tracking, and skin temperature – for health monitoring and sleep analysis. It also supports double pinch gesture controls, which can be used to snap a picture or dismiss an alarm.
The Samsung Galaxy Ring is now available for pre-order in selected markets, including the US where it is priced at a cool $399; that comes up to about RM1,875. While the smart ring won’t be offered in Malaysia yet, we will be sure to keep a close eye on the local availability of the Galaxy Ring.
