Proton is set to introduce its first-ever EV under the e.MAS sub-brand sometime in December 2024, and rumours are suggesting that it will be based on the Geely Galaxy E5. Well, according to a new report, this may prove to be true: e.MAS dealers have supposedly test drove the electric SUV, and it may be priced quite competitively.
This bit of information comes from Funtasticko, which has proven to be quite reliable in the past. According to its source, several e.MAS dealers were flown to China a couple of months ago to test drive the Galaxy E5, though it was still in the left-hand drive orientation. It was also mentioned that the E5 is a “very likely” candidate to be the first e.MAS model.
Funtasticko’s source further mentioned that the e.MAS EV based on the Galaxy E5 could be priced below the RM120,000 price point. For a large electric SUV like the E5 – it is larger and wider than, say, the Proton X70 – this is certainly an attractive price point.
Of course, as these details do not come officially from Proton, do take them with a grain of salt. We’ll find out for ourselves just what the first Proton e.MAS model will bring come December 2024; we’ll be sure to keep an eye out for any relevant news regarding the upcoming EV.
