Apple Intelligence Official – AI System for iPhone, iPad, Mac
June 11, 2024 Andrew Cheng

Apple Intelligence is one of the biggest announcements at Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference keynote. According to the Cupertino company, the feature is a “personal intelligence system that puts powerful generative models at the core of iPhone, iPad, and Mac.”

Once Apple Intelligence is rolled out later this year (in beta form) with the release of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, Apple users can expect a number of AI-centric features. These include a more capable Siri with onscreen awareness, text summarisation, image generation, and even ChatGPT integration.

Privacy, as it has always been with Apple, is also a big part of Apple Intelligence. Whenever possible, on-device processing will be used, while more complex requests will be handled by Apple’s own “Private Cloud Compute” that runs on servers powered by Apple silicon.

Even though Apple Intelligence will be offered on iPhone, iPad, and Mac later this year, only selected models will get the AI system. For iPhone, only the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will have access to Apple Intelligence. As for iPad and Mac, the M1 chip (or later) is required for the AI system.
