It’s no exaggeration to say that the Daihatsu safety debacle sparked some safety concerns over Perodua and Toyota models sold in Malaysia. But owners of these cars can now rest easy; Transport Minister Anthony Loke said that all Perodua and Toyota models sold on our shores are in compliance with safety standards.
This conclusion was reached after retesting was done by Technical Services (TS) on six Perodua models and three Toyota vehicles, which include the first and second generation Axia, Alza, Aruz, Ativa, Bezza, and of course, the ever-popular Myvi. As for Toyota, the models retested were the Vios, Veloz, and Rush. The results were then reviewed and examined by the Road Transport Department (JPJ).
In fact, the retesting results are also published online for the public to glean over; Loke said this is done to ensure transparency and openness. “JPJ will rigorously continue to monitor both vehicle manufacturers and Daihatsu Motor Corporation (DMC) to ensure they have implemented the prescribed improvement actions,” Loke added.
So there you have it. Rest assured, the Perodua or Toyota car you’re driving right now is as safe as advertised, which should give owners peace of mind. Again, you can check the retesting results of the Perodua and Toyota models here.
