After much anticipation, the government finally announced its diesel subsidy. The Budi programme offers a RM200/month diesel subsidy for Malaysians who are earning less than RM100,000 annually who also own a diesel-based personal vehicle that is less than 10 years old.
On top of that, the diesel vehicle has to be registered with the road transport department (JPJ) as well with an active road tax. Naturally, luxury vehicles are excluded from this subsidy, and the same apply to diesel motorcycles, caravans, motorhome, tour vans, and buses. Those who use their diesel vehicles for e-hailing or work purposes are not eligible for the subsidy either.
Besides that, it’s worth noting that agriculture and commodity smallholders can also enjoy the RM200/month diesel subsidy under the Budi Agri-Commodity programme. Applicants must be registered with relevant agencies, and they must generate an annual turnover of between RM50,000 to RM300,000 too.
Application for the Budi and Budi Agri-Commodity programmes will start tomorrow on 28 May, and it will remain open throughout the year. Those who are interested can send in their application on https://budimadani.gov.my/, though the website is not live yet at the time of writing.
