At the unveiling of the Perodua emo-1 EV prototype at Malaysia Autoshow 2024, Perodua also revealed the tentative pricing of its upcoming EV. Set to be released sometime in 2025 – as mandated by the government – Perodua’s first-ever electric vehicle will be priced between RM50,000 to RM100,000.
This was revealed by the President and CEO of Perodua himself, Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad in a media Q&A session. He also mentioned that the EV will be an affordable model, and the national carmaker is even working on a mechanism to ensure good resale value of its EV; certainly an interesting idea.
It remains to be seen just what body style Perodua’s first EV will be sporting, though the carmaker has used the hugely popular Myvi as a basis for its EV concepts over the past couple of years. If we were to take a guess, we’d say an electric hatchback is on the cards for Perodua.
Of course, this is only an educated guess on our part. We’ll just have to wait for Perodua to reveal more details on its upcoming EV as we approach closer to the 2025 release of the new model. For now, you can check out Perodua’s new (and working) EV prototype, the emo-1 at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024 in MAEPS Serdang. The event is set to take place from 22 to 26 May this weekend.
