Apple App Store Prevented $7 Billion in Potentially Fraudulent Transactions in 4 Years
May 16, 2024 Andrew Cheng

Apple recently released its fourth annual fraud prevention analysis, and there are some interesting data to glean over. Between 2020 to 2023, the Cupertino company prevented over $7 billion (that’s a whopping RM32.8 billion!) in potentially fraudulent transactions.

In fact, in 2023 alone, more than $1.8 billion in potentially fraudulent transactions were prevented. Over 14 million stolen credit cards and 3.3 million accounts were also blocked from transacting again in the same period, with 1.7 million app submissions rejected for failing to meet the App Store’s “stringent standards for privacy, security, and content.”

In its efforts to stop and reduce fraud on the App Store, Apple also terminated nearly 374 million developer and customer accounts in 2023. More than 1.1 billion ratings and reviews were processed in the same year too, with close to 152 million of them removed over fraud concerns.

More details on Apple’s fourth annual fraud prevention analysis can be found here. Evidently, the company is putting quite a bit of effort to ensure that the App Store remains “a safe and trusted place for users and developers,” as Apple puts it.
