The Xiaomi SU7 is the Chinese company’s first-ever car, and the EV has garnered a tremendous amount of interest in its home country. According to the CEO of Xiaomi, Lei Jun, it looks like the brand’s car business will not make it outside of China in the near future.
At the ongoing Beijing Auto Show, Lei Jun said that Xiaomi intends to keep its automotive business “100% focused” on the Chinese market for the next three years, as reported by Reuters. With that in mind, it is unlikely the SU7 – or any other future vehicles from Xiaomi – will be sold outside of China until at least 2028.
Anyway, three different variants of the SU7 are offered. There’s the standard SU7, mid-tier SU7 Pro, as well as the much more powerful SU7 Max. The Max model features a dual motor AWD system with a combined output of 673PS and 835Nm of torque, allowing it to do the century sprint in only 2.78 seconds.
The SU7 Max also has a top speed of 265kmph and a large 101kWh battery that provides up to 800km of range. However, this range is based on the CLTC cycle, which is typically more optimistic than the WLTP standard. Nonetheless, this is still a respectable range.
While we won’t be seeing the Xiaomi SU7 outside of China in the foreseeable future, there’s no denying that it is an impressive EV with excellent value for money. Here’s hoping the company will consider bringing in its future cars to other markets, including Malaysia.
