Proton just announced its sales report for March 2024, and the national carmaker has some interesting details to share. The Proton Saga, for one, recorded its best Q1 sales since 2013 over the past three months with 18,247 units sold, maintaining its position as Proton’s best-selling model.

Not surprisingly, the Proton S70 is now the carmaker’s second best-selling model. With 2,072 units sold last month, over 5,828 bookings of the C-segment sedan have been fulfilled in Q1 2024. Proton did mention that production volume of the S70 is still catching up to demand, citing that “close attention is being paid to product quality.”

Naturally, Proton’s range of SUVs continue to be a popular choice among consumers. The X50 found 5,444 owners in 2024 so far, while the X70 and X90 recorded 603 and 326 sales respectively in the same period of time. As for the Persona and Iriz, 5,370 and 1,534 units respectively were moved in Q1 2024.

“The first quarter of 2024 ended positively for Proton and with no external factors encouraging sales growth this year, the numbers achieved offer a more accurate reading of market demand. The automotive industry in Malaysia continues to be buoyant, and this is evident by the overall growth in TIV,” said the CEO of Proton Edar, Roslan Abdullah.

“For the rest of the year, Proton will look for continued sales growth by working closely with our vendors to produce more units of our best-selling models, such as the Proton Saga and Proton S70, while continuing to build our export sales volume. We are confident of meeting our growth targets while also working towards our other commitments such as the development and introduction of our own EV model in the future,” he added.

At a recent media gathering, Proton confirmed that it is on track to introduce its very own EV sometime in 2025 next year as outlined by MITI. On top of that, national carmaker hinted that it may even introduce more than one EV, which is certainly an interesting prospect.
