March 25, 2024 Andrew Cheng

MG is set to introduce its two EVs, the MG4 and MG ZS, here in Malaysia later this week. The carmaker, which is now handled by SAIC Motor Malaysia itself on our shores, will launch the electric hatchback and SUV on 27 March at 10:30AM through its official Facebook page.

The more sporty-looking EV of the two is certainly the MG4 hatchback; as many as four different variants are set to be available in Malaysia. Three of the models (Standard, Lux, Lux Extended Range) feature a single motor on the rear with different outputs and range, while the range-topping XPOWER model has an AWD dual motor setup.

Naturally, the MG4 XPOWER is the most powerful model, packing 435PS and 600Nm of torque for a 0-100kmph time of only 3.8 seconds with up to 385km of range (WLTP). A tier down is the Lux Extended Range (245PS/350Nm, 520km WLTP range), followed by the Lux (203PS/250Nm, 435km WLTP range) and Standard (170PS/250Nm, 350km WLTP range).

Regardless of which trim level you get, all variants of the MG4 are capable of 150kW DC charging or 7kW AC charging. As for local pricing, we only have estimated figures for now, starting at RM104,000 for the Standard model, RM129,000 for the Lux, and RM149,000 for the Lux Extended Range. As for the highest-end MG4 XPOWER, it’s estimated to go for RM159,000.

And then we have the MG ZS. Only one variant of the electric SUV is set to be offered in Malaysia, which is estimated to be priced at RM129,000. For that kind of money, it feature a front motor that outputs 176PS and 280Nm of torque, allowing it to go from 0-100kmph in 8 seconds.

Aside from that, it also has a 51.1kWh battery that can return up to 320km of range on the stringent WLTP cycle. The EV supports 50kW DC charging too, which can charge up the SUV from 10% to 80% in 54 minutes. As for AC charging, it can draw 7kW of power, taking up eight hours for a full charge.

The MG4 and MG ZS are now open for booking in Malaysia through MG’s official website. We will find out the finalised pricing of the electric hatchback and SUV for our market later this week on 27 March.
