Working Out With the Oppo Watch X – Surprisingly Robust Sports Tracking
March 4, 2024 Andrew Cheng

The Oppo Watch X was unveiled last week, and as the Chinese company’s latest flagship smartwatch, it has some intriguing features. These include up to 100 hours of battery life – that’s about four days of use on a single charge – and rather robust sports tracking capabilities.

Oppo Malaysia held a “Calories Burn Out Day” event for members of the media recently, and we got to try out the Watch X’s sports tracking in several activities. These include pickleball, padel, and even a spin class. What surprised us quite a bit is how well the watch can track racquet sports; it can show us the serves we did, how many shots we took, and the amount of backhand and forehand shots we made.

Besides its sports tracking capabilities, the Watch X carries a RM1,399 price tag in Malaysia. For that kind of money, it offers a “dual engine architecture,” as Oppo puts it. Basically, it runs on two chips: there’s the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 SoC for more demanding tasks, and a BES2700 MCU chip for power efficiency.

It is this unique hardware configuration that allows the Watch X to deliver up to 100 hours of use in the full-featured Smart Mode or up to 12 days in Power Saver Mode. Other specifications of the smartwatch include dual-frequency GPS (L1 and L5), a 1.43-inch circular AMOLED screen protected by a sapphire crystal cover, stainless steel case, 500mAh battery, a hybrid version of Wear OS 4, as well as IP68 rating and 5ATM water resistance.

The Oppo Watch X is now available for purchase in Malaysia for RM1,399, and those who buy the smartwatch by 21 April will be eligible for a RM100 rebate and the offer to get an additional strap for RM1 instead of its full RM129 price tag. Two colour options are offered: Platinum Black and Mars Brown.
