PlayStation Laying Off 900 Employees – Closes London Studio
February 28, 2024 Andrew Cheng

Yet another large company is cutting down on its workforce. This time around, it’s Sony’s PlayStation division, which is reducing its global headcount by 8%; that translates to about 900 employees under the PlayStation brand.

On top of that, the company is also shuttering its London Studio in the UK, and a number of PlayStation studios are also affected by the layoffs. These include Naughty Dog, Insomniac Games, Guerrilla Games, and Firesprite. PlayStation employees in the Americas, Japan, EMEA, and APAC regions will also be impacted.

The President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Jim Ryan, says that PlayStation employees that are affected by the layoffs are “incredibly talented people who have been part of our success, and we are very grateful for their contributions.” “However, the industry has changed immensely, and we need to future ready ourselves to set the business up for what lies ahead,” he added.

More details on PlayStation’s layoffs – including a copy of the email sent to the company’s employees – can be found here. It’s worth noting that PlayStation is not the only company that is reducing its workforce. Other large entities like Microsoft, Unity, and Discord have also done so over the past couple of months.
