Galaxy AI Coming to Older Samsung Flagship Devices – Free Until 2025
January 18, 2024 Andrew Cheng

Galaxy AI is turning out to be quite the exciting feature for the new Samsung Galaxy S24 series. If you’ve got an older Samsung flagship device like the Galaxy S23 Ultra, good news: the phone – along with other selected models – will also get Galaxy AI within the first half of 2024.

This was confirmed by Samsung itself in a statement to several publications. Devices that are set to get Galaxy AI in 1H 2024 include the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, as well as the Galaxy Tab S9 series. It remains to be seen if older flagship devices not listed here will also get the feature.

However, it’s worth noting that not all Galaxy AI features currently available on the S24 series will be offered on these devices, which can be due to hardware limitation. Samsung did not mention which specific AI features will be trickled down, though it did say many of them will be supported.

Aside from that, there is also a disclaimer for Galaxy AI; more specifically, its status as a free service. On the product pages for the S24 series, there is a footnote that states “Galaxy AI features will be provided for free until the end of 2025.” It’s also said that different terms may apply for AI features provided by third parties, which is likely a reference to Google’s Circle to Search feature.

With that disclaimer, it’s unclear if Samsung will actually charge for Galaxy AI features come 2026, and we didn’t get any concrete confirmation from Samsung representatives either at a media launch for the Galaxy S24 series earlier today. Nonetheless, at least now we know Galaxy AI will be free until 2025.
