Apple Vision Pro Launches 2 February 2024 in US for $3,499 – Pre-Orders Start 19 January

First unveiled in June last year, Apple’s highly anticipated Vision Pro headset will finally start shipping next month on 2 February 2024 in the US. Pre-orders of the headset, on the other hand, will be opened next week on 19 January in the same region.

Priced at $3,499 (about RM16,255), the Vision Pro can be controlled with a user’s eyes, hands, and even voice. That means there is no need for a physical controller for the headset, though Bluetooth accessories can be used for more precise controls. Aside from that, there is also a dial on the right side of the headset to switch between augmented reality and virtual reality.

Apple is working with several companies to take advantage of the Vision Pro, including Disney. Disney+, for example, will be available on the AR headset on day one. The streaming service looks to offer a more immersive viewing experience with the Vision Pro, such as showing various HUDs with relevant information of the content that’s being shown.

Hardware wise, the Vision Pro features curved MicroOLED panels with 23 million pixels across two displays (one for each eye). This is said to be sharper than, say, a 4K panel. On top of that, AR headset is also powered by Apple’s M2 silicone alongside a new chip, R1, for sensor processing.

Oh, there’s also a new authentication feature dubbed Optic ID. As its name suggests, it uses your iris to authenticate your identity; very neat.

As previously announced, the Apple Vision Pro is only available in the US for now, so it’ll be a while before the sleek headset arrives in other markets, including Malaysia. Nonetheless, at least consumers in the US can get their hands on the Vision Pro from 2 February 2024 onwards.
