Asus ROG Phone 8 Series Leaks in Full Ahead of 8 January 2024 Launch
December 18, 2023 Andrew Cheng

The Asus ROG Phone 8 series is expected to be unveiled next month on 8 January 2024. Ahead of its launch, renders and specifications of the gaming phone have been leaked, and it looks more like a conventional smartphone now rather than a gaming-centric device.

These details on the ROG Phone 8 and ROG Phone 8 Pro come from Windows Report. As the images below show, the phone has a more squared off design now. Either versions of the gaming phone doesn’t have a screen on the back panel anymore either, though the dual tone finish of the ROG Phone 7 is retained.

Of course, the ROG Phone 8 series is still unmistakably a gaming-centric device. It features the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, a 6.78-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a 165Hz refresh rate – it remains to be seen if the non-Pro model gets the same refresh rate – and curiously, a 5,500mAh battery; this is slightly smaller than the 6,000mAh cell of its predecessor.

Other specifications of the ROG Phone 8 include up to 24GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage, Android 14 out of the box, and get this: an IP68 rating. The camera configuration of the Pro model is detailed too, which is a triple camera setup made up of a 50MP main shooter, a 13MP ultra-wide sensor, and a 32MP telephoto lens that can do 3x optical zoom. On the front, the Pro version also gets a 32MP selfie camera.

The ROG Phone 8 series is set to be unveiled at CES 2024 next month on 8 January 2024. We’ll find out then if these renders and specifications turn out to be accurate.
