Introduced exactly two weeks ago, the M3-powered MacBook Pro looks to be available in Malaysia very, very soon. Promising faster performance thanks to the new M3 chip, the updated MacBook Pro is also offered in a new Space Black colourway.

In our routine search through SIRIM’s database, a MacBook Pro with the model number A2918 was registered under Apple Malaysia and AnsarComp just last Friday on 10 November. A quick check on Apple’s website reveals that this is the base 14-inch MacBook Pro with the standard M3 chip.

Naturally, the biggest change to the refreshed MacBook Pro laptops (aside from the new Space Black colour) are the M3 chips. Built on a power-efficient 3nm process, the new chips bring even faster performance; Apple says that the M3 Max model is up to 11x faster than the fastest Intel-based MacBook Pro model. This performance upgrade doesn’t impact battery life either, as Apple is still quoting the same (and very long) 22-hour battery life. The unified memory support has also been improved: the maximum capacity is now set at 128GB compared to 96GB.

Beyond the new M3 chips, other hardware of the updated MacBook Pros remain (almost) the same. While they still feature a bright and vibrant Liquid Retina XDR display with ProMotion support, offering 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, SDR content are now brighter by 20% on these new laptops – the max brightness is set at 600 nits instead of 500 nits.

Here in Malaysia, the 14-inch MacBook Pro now retails from RM7,499 for the M3 option; quite a bit lower than the RM8,799 starting price of its predecessor. The M3 Pro model, on the other hand, starts at RM9,999, while the most powerful M3 Max option goes from a cool RM14,799.

Now that the base M3 model of the 14-inch MacBook Pro has appeared in SIRIM’s database, we reckon the other variants – alongside the larger 16-inch MacBook Pro – will also be registered with the certification body very soon. With that in mind, expect the new M3-powered MacBook Pro laptops to be sold in Malaysia in the near future.
