Oppo just launched a new mid-range smartphone in Malaysia, the Oppo A79. Sporting a rather unique-looking “Glowing Feather” design, it’s a modest mid-ranger with an IP54 rating, so it has some dust resistance with the ability to withstand water splashes.

For the Malaysian market, the A79 retails at RM1,199. For that kind of money, it features 8GB of RAM, 256GB of internal storage, as well as two colour options. There’s the more minimalist Mystery Black, and the Dazzling Purple colourway with the aforementioned Glowing Feather design with a…feather-like touch, as Oppo puts it.

Of course, as the A79 is a modest mid-ranger, its hardware reflect that. It features a MediaTek Dimensity 6020 chipset, a 6.72-inch 2400 x 1080 LTPS display with a 90Hz refresh rate, a dual camera system (50MP primary + 2MP portrait), an 8MP selfie camera, and a 5,000mAh battery with 33W fast charging.

The Oppo A79 is now available for purchase in Malaysia for RM1,199 through Oppo’s own online store, Shopee, as well as Lazada. The brand is also running a contest on its Facebook page until 15 November, where a lucky winner can walk away with an A79. Naturally, terms and conditions apply.
