Apple users can look forward to an improved Apple Maps in Malaysia. Between November 2023 to July 2024, the Cupertino company will be collecting data throughout Malaysia to improve its Maps app, while also adding support for the Look Around feature on our shores.

Yes, Look Around is similar to Google’s Street View, though Apple’s implementation in its Maps app does feel more intuitive to use, in our opinion. The company will begin its data collection in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor from 10 November tomorrow to 29 February 2024, with other regions to follow later on. The full schedule can be found here.

In a press release, Apple says that it is “conducting ground surveys with vehicles around the world to collect data to improve Apple Maps and to support the Look Around feature.” These vehicles may have specific equipment mounted on the outside, and iPhones, iPads, or other devices could be used inside the vehicles too.

If you’re lucky, you may be able to spot the vehicles Apple will be using to collect its maps data. Of course, in the interest of privacy, faces, license plates, and other private information on images published in Look Around will be censored. Currently, the Look Around feature is offered in selected countries, including Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and of course, the US.
