It is official! Proton just confirmed the release of an all-new sedan since the launch of the Persona in 2016, and yes, it is called the Proton S70. Bookings for the new model are now open, and public previews of the highly anticipated sedan will be held from 11 November.
Bookings for the S70 are accepted at all Proton outlets, though a RM500 fee is charged. While details of the public previews have not been revealed yet, the national carmaker confirmed that it will be held in “several major Malaysian state capitals.”
Proton also confirmed several key details of the S70. It’s positioned as a C-segment sedan just like the Preve, and it’s said to feature “intelligent safety technology” (likely some form of ADAS) along with a 1.5L turbo engine paired to a dual-clutch transmission. If rumours are to be believed, it should be the 1.5L MPI turbo mill (150PS/226Nm) found in the X50 lineup.
“The Proton S70 marks a new chapter for Proton as we return to the family sedan market with a model that is the next step in the evolution of our offerings,” said the CEO of Proton, Li Chunrong.
“Endowed with intelligent safety technology, connectivity, and a 1.5L turbocharged engine with dual clutch transmission, we have high hopes it will prove to be popular with current and new Proton fans and help return us to the top of a market segment that was previously led by models such as the Proton Wira, Waja and Preve,” he added.
To recap, bookings for the Proton S70 are now open at all Proton outlets, with public previews happening from 11 November. Chances are, the previews will be reserved for customers who have placed a booking for the sedan. Production has started for the S70, so it is very likely the sedan will be launched sometime this month, just as promised.
