The flagship chipset that will be powering the next range of high-end smartphones have been unveiled. Enter the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which promises faster performance and better power efficiency despite still being built on a 4nm process.

In terms of sheer performance, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3’s CPU is said to be 30% faster with 20% improved efficiency. The upgraded Qualcomm Adreno GPU, on the other hand, offers 25% better graphics rendering and 25% improvement in GPU power efficiency.

Basically, the new chipset brings improved performance without being more power-hungry; that’s the promise, anyway.

“Generative AI” is the latest buzzword for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. According to the Senior Vice President and General Manager of mobile handsets at Qualcomm, Chris Patrick, the chipset “infuses high-performance AI across the entire system to deliver premium-level performance and extraordinary experiences to consumers.”

“This platform unlocks a new era of generative AI enabling users to generate unique content, help with productivity, and other breakthrough use cases,” he added.

We will start seeing flagship Android smartphones sporting the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset in the coming weeks. Xiaomi, for one, has already confirmed that its Xiaomi 14 series – which will be unveiled tomorrow on 26 October – will be powered by the new SoC.
