We now know which telco is exclusively offering the AMD Ryzen Z1 version of the Asus ROG Ally in Malaysia. CelcomDigi, through its fibre service, has added the portable gaming PC to its list of device add-ons – the Ally will (effectively) cost only RM4 a day with the fibre internet package.

Of course, there are caveats to this. The Z1 ROG Ally itself, for one, cannot be purchased separately. Instead, the device can only be selected as an add-on by signing up for a CelcomDigi fibre 300Mbps plan and above. If you bundle thee Ally with a 24-month contract, you will be charged RM114/month, so you’re essentially paying RM4 a day for the portable gaming PC.

Retailing at RM2,799, the Z1 ROG Ally costs RM500 less than the more powerful Z1 Extreme variant. Beyond the different chip, the more affordable Ally still comes with a 7-inch 1920 x 1080 display clocked at 120Hz, which is quite a bit better than its main competition, the Steam Deck. Valve’s product has a lower resolution 60Hz panel, though it has a taller 16:10 aspect ratio.

Aside from that, the ROG Ally can also be connected to the (proprietary) ROG XG Mobile external GPU enclosure for higher fidelity gaming. Other specifications of the Ally include 16GB of LPDDR5 dual-channel RAM, a 512GB PCIe Gen4 SSD, a microSD card slot for further storage expansion, as well as a lightweight chassis that tips the scales at 608g.
